Rail Heritage

That world changing 19th Century technology, the steam locomotive, played an important role in our economic history. It has left its legacy in many parts of New Zealand. Locomotives are restored and operated in a number of places and the routes they followed are ideal for conversion to walkways and cycle trails. The heritage includes station architecture and major engineering structures such as viaducts and tunnels.
