Artist-In-Residence

Artists Residencies The many and various forms of art practiced throughout New Zealand helps create a vibrant national community of artistic variety for this small country. Our art is influenced by the Pacific region, its people and geography, and by the culture brought in by recent migrants. But possibly more than anything else, art here is influenced by the Maori / Pakeha relationship of discord and harmony... Residencies designed to support and promote a broad catchment of artistic practice and discourse, are plentiful within New Zealand. Most of our universities offer residencies within their arts faculties, as do our public art galleries. A residency might include a stipend and accommodation, while others simply offer a beautiful and or historically significant place to stay and create. Residencies are usually (if not always) by application, and for the more sought after positions the competition can be steep.
