Belgrove Windmill

A survivor from a the Nelson to Glenhope railway which was closed in 1955, this windmill, built in 1897, originally pumped water to supply engines beginning the steep climb to Spooner's tunnel. It is now used for domestic supply. This is the best remaining example of a wooden railway windmill in New Zealand. Once there were over 100 in use.
The 1.4 km Spooner's tunnel after being closed for more than 50 years opened in April 2016 as part of Tasman's Great Taste Cycling Trail.
